“What is considered cheating?”

What is considered cheating is arguably commonest question asked by people in a relationship or people who intend to get into one.

Everyone wants to have a rational boundary which they don’t intend to stretch once it comes to infidelity. They want to know their own limits as well as that of their partners.

Now, this is understandable.

Relationships ought to be defined and in defining it, you set reasonable boundaries of what you’ll take and won’t take. These boundaries could be set mentally or audibly.

However, the idea is to communicate to your partner that you won’t condone this behaviour in the relationship.

Recently, a chat between a supposed couple was released on the internet which got people talking.

In the end, the question “what is considered cheating?” surfaced.

People from their perspectives insisted that it is wrong to request half clad pictures from a person of the opposite sex when you’re in a relationship.

The issue lingered for a while as people’s views clashed.

However, this article is here to answer the question and clear all doubts.

What is Considered Cheating??

Physical Cheating

The physical affair is the most tangible form of cheating in most traditional relationships.

The question “Did you catch him red-handed?” always refers to witnessing your spouse in an act with another attractive person other than yourself.

Sometimes, it’s the easiest way to determine and sometimes it’s the hardest.

Sleeping together is a massive breach of trust because the process involved in getting to that point is too long to be a mistake.

This is true. No arguments.

But how do you then judge a drunken make out at an after work party?

This is where intentions come in.

Physical affair refers to the using of the body’s senses to feel a connection, where the intention is touch and for sexual gain.

Emotional Cheating

This type of cheating refers to any emotional attachment between a person and someone other than their partner.

This is considered cheating because physical contact doesn’t necessarily need to take place before it becomes cheating.

Holding of hands, kissing, cuddling, and more must not take place before it becomes cheating.

Your significant other should be the first person you turn to for most of your daily ups and downs as well as your life’s greatest hurdles – when this is no longer the case, something is wrong.

It is considered cheating when in need of who to talk to after a depressing day, you turn to a friend or a colleague instead of your spouse.

As a couple, you are emotionally responsible for each other.

Cyber Cheating

Cyber cheating is something our contemporary society is plagued with. This refers to the development of an emotional connection developed online.

When the age long what is considered cheating question comes up,many people don’t even think of it as a thing.

Some people will go as far as trying to make excuses for these and in many cases, successfully get away with it because “It’s just a text”.

This is because everything happens online, hence it is interpreted as nothing serious.

Cyber cheating has become a thing of commonality in which someone can easily fall into.

Social media is a place we all come to, majorly for the purpose of creating connections, making friends and easing off.  Falling into a cyber affair can be totally unintentional.

Financial Cheating

Are you surprised? Yes, you should be. Quite a lot of people don’t know about this.

Financial cheating begins when couples with shared finances lie to each other about money.

This could be in the form of secretly putting money away in a separate account for a personal need or collective need without the knowledge of your partner.

As surprising as it may sound, It is considered cheating to hide your expenses and spending habits from your partner.

Micro-Cheating

Micro cheating refers to a set of behaviors that blur out the thin line between faithfulness and unfaithfulness.

Chances exist that people’s definition of this might vary in regards to what is considered cheating.

But, using a dating app, frequent texting, and flirting all fall into this category.

While micro-cheating may not be all that bad in and of itself, it can easily lead to physical Cheating. What starts as a genuine friendship or an ordinary flirting can rapidly grow into something else.

Other things that are considered cheating include.

  • Touching and grabbing inappropriate areas.
  • Buying gifts, paying bills, or going to dinner with someone other than your partner.
  • Texting in the wee hours.
  • Exchanging explicit texts.
  • Going on a date with someone other than your partner.
  • Going to internet chat rooms with the intention of exchanging phone numbers or to meet up.
  • Meeting up with your exes.
  • Clubbing (e.g., bumping and grinding) with someone other than your partner.
  • Exchanging phone numbers with someone other than your partner.
  • Flirting and teasing with someone else.

These and more are a list of inappropriate behaviour which when involved in can offend your partner.

Did you observe that flirting occurred countless times in this article? That just posed the question: “Is flirting considered cheating?”

Firstly, flirting is the act of behaving as though sexually attracted to someone, but playfully rather than with serious intentions.

For most, the act of just flirting is not cheating. It is “harmless” and can be done for fun even with your partner around.

Majority of people only consider flirting cheating once it is done behind the partner’s back. This is because it is believed that it won’t get out of hand with them around.

However, if flirting is an indication of neglect in a relationship, it can rapidly increase and get out of control which will eventually lead to something more remarkable.

All this brings us to the conclusion that just like relationships are done with intentionality, cheating is done with intentionality.

Cheating doesn’t happen by chance.

Truth is, some people might be opportunistic cheaters who will take the advantage of a disagreement or a fight with their significant other to cheat on them. They may try to justify their actions by subtly blaming the other person and accusing him/her of neglect.

Cheating isn’t the work of the devil or a mistake. As stated earlier, the process involved in cheating — physical cheating, majorly — is too thorough to be a mistake.

Hopefully that would clear your doubts about what is considered cheating and what is not.
