The problem comes with the type of things we engage in to alleviate our boredom. How many times do you get told to make productive use of your time, engage in physical activity, etc?

The dilemma isn’t quite so simple. After all, a walk around the park is a physical activity and technically checks quite a few boxes. But the repetition will tend to put you right back where you were, mentally idle.

You will also be developing habits that will keep you busy, and you will be learning more about areas that interest you or need improvement, and you will be making the most of your time.

5. Get On A Forum Of Interest

    The list goes on and on. Choose something that will have an impact on the world, either directly or indirectly, and then do it.

    7. Spend Quality Time With Your Loved Ones

    Whether you do it in person or over a video calling device, spend some quality time with the people you love.

    I see people all the time asking what to do when they’re bored while their loved ones are sitting in the next room. It shows how disconnected intimate relationships, family, and friends have become. There used to be a time when spending quality time together was one of the only things you did to relieve boredom.

    Spending quality time with people you love will help you feel better and it will strengthen the relationship between you and the person you decide to spend quality time with.

    And all of that will have a HUGE impact on your life because your closest relationships – and how good or bad they are – impact every area of your life.

    8. Clean Something

    Yourself. Your home. Your car. Your dog. There is always something to clean. When you’re bored, why not take the opportunity to get up and clean something that needs to be cleaned?

    The real benefit is after you clean. Your mood will be higher than it was before because you’ve accomplished something – and that something makes you feel better because cleaning and happiness go hand in hand.

    9. Get Addicted To Positive Things

    One thing you can do is free association writing. This simply means writing without censorship or restraint. This can help you release some inner feelings and thoughts that you may not even know you have.

    Sigmund Freud developed this free association concept. He encouraged his patients to continuously talk so that he didn’t lead his patients toward certain issues of other people through his suggestions. Instead, they would find their own issues through continuous talking and then be able to work through them.

    Apply this to writing. Continuously write whatever comes to mind, and sometimes you will amaze yourself with what you write.

    You can also journal your feelings which will help you release some of the energy of being bored and could help you get focused on something you want to do.

    And of course, there is writing on a blog, which will totally get rid of your boredom. When you are sharing what you know with other people, it’s hard to be bored.

    You could also sit down and write purposely to write a book or an eBook.
